Am I a "gold digger" because my family had such tragic circumstaces?

I disagree. Can help you to achieve happiness but money certainly cannot buy you love or friendship. They just give you stabilization, but if you are going to marry man only for money than you do have issues with yourself. I do not pay attention how much money has a man I am going out with because of one simple reason, I can provide myself with it. I am self- sufficient and that what matters and this is what I expect from myself. I would feel bad taking money from someone else. My parents never had money and I suffered because of that a lot. My dad also had health issues and my mum couldn't afford even his treatment. That only taught me to depend on myself and give myself life like I want.
